The Lion and The Jackal

Once upon a time in a jungle, lived a pair of lion and lioness. They loved each other a lot! The lion used to go on hunting and then, both of them shared the food. One day, the lion went on hunting and he couldn’t find anything. When he was returning, he saw a baby jackal. The Lion was delighted on seeing the Jackal. He thought it is inappropriate to hunt him down. So, he took the Jackal to his home. When he reached with the jackal clutched in his arms, he narrated the whole incident to the Lioness and offered her to kill the Jackal and satisfy her hunger. The Lioness refused and said in return that she will raise and love him like their own child.

The Jackal grew up among-st the cubs. He was tremendously loved by the Lion and Lioness. One day, the jackal and his lion siblings went to jungle for hunting. There they saw a herd of elephants. Seeing the elephants, the Jackal said to his brothers that elephants are more powerful than their kin and they must not fight them. It is impossible to even estimate their strength. They’re huge and they must walk away.

Both the Lion brothers laughed loudly and reverted saying that the Jackal is a coward! He should be scared of them. When they reached home, Jackal shared everything with the Lioness and said that the Lion brothers have been making fun of him all the time. He said that if he gets angry, he can kill them too. The cubs also explained the whole incident to their mother and how the jackal didn’t allowed them to go near the elephant because he was scared.

After listening everything, the Lioness said to the Jackal that the cubs are his younger brothers and It is his duty to forgive them. Only when he will forgive them, he will earn respect.

The jackal still felt infuriated and lashed out at the lion brother. The Lioness got angry but managed to explain the jackal about his real identity. The jackal felt a bit scared when he came to know that he isn’t like them. He questioned why the Lion and the Lioness raised him like one of their own and why did they hide his true identity.

The Lioness explained that when they first saw him, he was a little child. They didn’t think it was be right to kill him. Terror-stricken, the Jackal ran back to his kind and never came back and his illusion of being a lion got broken.

Moral of the story: We can never hide our true identity.

Near Sher Khan’s resting place was the house of a mouse. The Mouse came out of his house as he got annoyed by Sher Khan’s heavy snoring. At first, the Mouse got scared on seeing Sher Khan. After looking at him, the mouse thought of having some fun. He thought the Lion can not harm him because he was snoring and was in deep sleep. Mouse starting jumping over Sher Khan. A couple of times, Sher Khan drove the mouse away through his tail. But the mouse was stubborn as he climbed on Sher Khan’s nose. After this, Sher Khan woke up.

On seeing the mouse doing its antics and jumping around him, Sher khan got severely angry. Sher khan then grabbed and roared at the mouse. He threatened the mouse and complained how it dared to you disturb him while he was asleep. The mouse got immensely scared and started sweating heavily. It requested lion not to kill and forgive as the Lion won’t gain any pride in killing a small creature like it.

The lion nodded on the statement of the Mouse but didn’t say anything in return. The mouse said if the Lion will spare its life then it will also help the Lion someday. The Lion laughed out loud on the statement made by mouse. The Lion made fun of the mouse and spared it just for the sake of making him laugh a lot. The Mouse ran away. After few days, a couple of hunters came in the jungle to nab the Lion. They made a plan to capture him. They set up a trap and unfortunately, the Lion got trapped. He tried his best to break free but all of his efforts went in vain. He screamed out loud for help.

The mouse was passing by. It came to Sher Khan as it heard his voice. The mouse nibbled the trap quickly and Sher Khan got free. The mouse reminded the Lion that he had promised it will help him someday in future. The Lion thanked the mouse and said they will be friends for the rest of their lives.

Two Students and the Pigeon

Long time ago, there was an ashram where a lot of children came from far off places to get education. Amongst them were Mark & Kelly. Both had completed their education and according to the rules of the ashram, they had to go back home. But when Mark and Kelly were about to depart from the ashram, their teacher called them and said that they can go to their respective homes only if  they pass one final test! However, if they fail, they will have to stay in the ashram only.
Both were surprised. They asked their teacher what kind of test they have to give. The Teacher replied that they have to do him a little favour. The teacher gave both of them a pigeon and said that they have to kill the pigeons in a place where they wouldn’t be seen. Mark and kelly took the pigeons and accepted the task.

Mark took his pigeon in an isolated cave. He was very happy as he thought there was no one in the cave and he wouldn’t be noticed by anyone in there. Mark then twisted the neck of the pigeon and killed it! Then he returned to the ashram in no time. Mark narrated the entire scene to his teacher and asked whether can he go to his home or not?

The teacher told mark to wait for Kelly to return. Time passed and dusk fell. Kelly didn’t return. The teacher started getting worried for him. Soon, he saw Kelly approaching him. The teacher noticed the pigeon in Kelly’s hand. He asked Kelly how come the pigeon was still alive?

Kelly said to his teacher that he failed in the test. He explained by saying that he wasn’t able to kill the pigeon. First, he went to the Jungle but all the animals were watching him. Second, he took the pigeon to the seaside but all the fishes and the sea were watching him. Next, he took the pigeon to the Mountains but the silence was consuming him. At last, he took the pigeon to an isolated cave but he was watching the pigeon getting killed by himself. As a result, he returned.

Hearing the same, the Teacher got very happy. He told Kelly that he has passed in the test because the lesson he was trying to teach both of them was identical that fear stops everyone from doing the wrong deeds. We are always watched by our own soul so we must never indulge in any wrong deeds. At the end, Kelly exited the ashram and went to his home whereas Mark stayed. So kids, from this story, we learn a lesson that we should always be careful of our actions and must never commit any misdeed.
